Sri Lanka

Rice production in Sri Lanka had a mean yield average of almost 4 t/ha  and registered an estimated  yield gap 3.1 t/ha in irrigated rice systems in 2010. IRRI, through the Closing the Rice Yield Gaps in Asia (CORIGAP) Project, started to conduct activities to improve the rice production systems in the country.

Current CORIGAP initiatives in Sri Lanka include: 1) a baseline household data in Kilinochi District; 2) adaptive farmer participatory research of some selected crop management technologies in Pollonnaruwa and Killinochi districts; and 3) promotion of the use of dry seeders to interested users.

Meanwhile, postharvest activities in the pipeline are hermetic storage systems, laser leveling, and capacity building of intermediaries and scientists on postharvest and mechanization best practices.
