The Semi-automated downdraft rice hull furnace (dRHF) provides hot air to flatbed dryers for drying grains, seeds, and other crops. It was developed to cope with the high cost of fossil fuels that are used in most flatbed dryer furnaces. Around 51 units of dRHF is already installed all over the Philippines. Pilot sites of dRHF was established in Batangas, Cavite, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan Valley, and North Cotabato in 2010 and some users have started manufacturing units. Further studies to improve the components are being conducted at IRRI to optimize the performance of the dRHF. Watch the dRHF demonstration video for more information.
